Diminished Scale

The Diminished Scale is an eight note scale, or Octatonic Scale, consisting of notes that are spaced alternately by a whole tone and a half-tone. It has been suggested that the Diminished Scale first appeared in early Persian traditional music in the seventh century, later appearing in western music in the 1700s. More recently the Diminished Scale is used extensively in modern jazz.
